1. Deleting in the app (fastest)
Open Yalu and go to:
Settings → Account actions → Delete account
Confirm when asked. Your account is deactivated straight away, and the 30-day grace period starts.
2. Requesting deletion by email
If you cannot get into the app, email us and we will delete the account for you:
support@yalu.co
Put Delete my account in the subject line, and include the phone number the account is registered to. A person handles these, so please allow a few working days. If you no longer have that phone number either, say so in your email, and read How we confirm it is you below.
3. Which app this is
This page is for Yalu, the app for organising in-person Sessions with friends, published by Yalu LLC.
4. How we confirm it is you
We only act on a request we can tie to the account. If you email us, we normally confirm your identity by sending a verification code to the phone number on the account. We will not delete an account on the word of someone who cannot show they control it, because that would let anyone delete anyone.
If you no longer have that phone number, tell us in your email and we will try to establish it another way, by asking about details only the account holder would know. We cannot promise this will succeed. If we cannot reasonably satisfy ourselves that the account is yours, we will decline the request and explain why.
5. What is deleted, and what is kept
When the 30 days are up, we permanently remove your profile photo, bio, date of birth, location and pronouns, and we replace your name and username with an anonymous placeholder. Your phone number is removed from your sign-in record and released. We keep one copy of it, paired with your old username, for 6 months, so that you can reclaim that username if you sign up again from the same number.
Some records stay, because other people rely on them:
- your attendance at Sessions you already went to;
- kudos and shout-outs you gave or received;
- poll votes you cast;
- messages you sent in direct messages, group chats, Circle chats and Session chats;
- comments and questions you posted on Sessions; and
- Sessions you already hosted, including any that were cancelled.
The profile all of these are attached to is anonymised, so they no longer show who you are. We do not edit the content itself, so anything you typed stays as you wrote it.
Sessions you host are dealt with as soon as you ask to delete. One with a co-host is transferred to them. One with no co-host that has not started is cancelled, and everyone who joined is told. One already under way is left to finish.
We also keep anything we are required to keep, such as an unresolved report about you.
Full detail is in our Privacy Policy, under how long we keep things and deleting your account.
6. The 30-day grace period
Deleting is reversible for 30 days. Sign back in within that window and confirm on the Reactivate screen, and your account and your information come back.
Two things do not come back: Sessions that were cancelled or handed to a co-host, and places you gave up in other people's Sessions. After 30 days the deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
7. Before you delete: cancel your subscription
iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Yalu → Cancel Subscription.
Android: Google Play → your profile icon → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Yalu → Cancel subscription.
Cancel first, then delete. If you have already deleted and think you are still being billed, email support@yalu.co and we will help you work out where the charge is coming from, though only Apple or Google can stop it or refund it.
